Adults in the low-income group reported the highest percentage of current tobacco use and the lowest percentage for quitting. Tobacco product use is lower and the quit ratio is greater in higher income groups.

Quit ratio is the percentage of persons who ever smoked (100 or more cigarettes during their lifetime) and who had quit smoking. Poverty ratio is given by the ratio of family income to the poverty threshold specific to family size. Thus, individuals with a poverty ratio less than one are below the poverty level and with a poverty ratio greater than one are above the poverty level. Income status is defined by the poverty ratio: 0-1.99 identified as low income; 2.00-3.99 as middle income; and ≥4.00 as high income.
