US State-Level Human Development Index (SHDI)

Loading

States vary widely in socio-economic and demographic indicators of the population that determine the status of the tobacco landscape nationwide.

Footnote

State-level Human Development Index is a summary measure of these indicators. Quartile 1 represents the lowest level and Quartile 4 represents the highest level of human development.

Human Development Index is a summary of three dimensions of socio-economic and demographic characteristics of human capital: education, health, and standard of living. Data for the indicators of these three dimensions are available to be included in an interactive map for those who want to see each indicator value by state. See Technical Appendix I for detailed information on the method of constructing the index at the state level in the US.
